Let's Go Karting

That's a Wrap!

The 2022 Gran Premio della Valle dell'Antilope GPVA Go Karting Extravaganza (GPVAGKE) was a smashing success! Racers from throughout the Southern California area gathered in Ontario for a fun, real-life season-ending race.

Qualifying was full of excitement. While the final pole positions ended up representative of the final GPVA standings, there were surprising. M. Anderson, who showed promising speed in Free Practice unfortunately suffered mechanical difficulties in Qual and placed last on the grid. E. Murphy showed good improvement, shaving over 2 seconds off her best Free Practice lap. Qualifying ended with a bit of turn 1 pile-up on the last lap, thankfully only bruising egos.

Qualifying Results are as follows:

  1. J. Brander - 26.250

  2. J. Batwinis - 26.427

  3. B. Rivera - 27.424

  4. J. Giammarino - 27.682

  5. B. Santos - 27.776

  6. C. Duggan - 27.836

  7. E. Murphy - 27.902

  8. S. Rivera - 29.053

  9. M. Anderson - 30.637

The Final Race started off strong, with J. Batwinis glued to J. Brander's rear bumper for the first several laps, before eventually suffering battery degradation costing him seconds per lap and growing a gap. M. Anderson put on an impressive passing clinic. Starting 9th, at the back of the grid, after mechanical troubles in Qualifying, he managed to make his way through the field in the short race to finish 3rd and pick up Fast Lap of the Race! E. Murphy continued to improve her performance, further reducing her best lap time and finishing 4th. B. Rivera, who had a strong Qualifier, suffered mechanical issues in the final, dropping from 3rd on the grid to finish 7th.

Final Results are as follows:

  1. J. Brander (-)

  2. J. Batwinis (-)

  3. M. Anderson (+6) (FL)

  4. E. Murphy (+3)

  5. J. Giammarino (-1)

  6. B. Santos (-1)

  7. B. Rivera (-4)

  8. C. Duggan (-2)

  9. S. Rivera (-1)

The FVAA thanks the participants for attending the first annual (?) GPVAGKE, and look forward to the next!

The Fédération Vallée des Antilopes de l'Automobile (FVAA) and the Gran Premio della Valle dell'Antilope (GPVA) are proud to invite you to join them for the first annual (maybe?) GPVA Go Karting Extravaganza (GPVAGKE).

WHEN: Friday, December 9, 2022 - Time 12:30 PM Arrival, 1:00 PM Race Start.

WHERE: K1 Speed Ontario*, 5350 ONTARIO MILLS PKWY, BLDG. E, ONTARIO, CA 91764

COST: $100** per person, non-refundable*** (K1 Speed policy)

WHAT: 3 private races (Practice, Qualifying, Race), plus a private hangout room, and food/non-alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic beverages are available at additional cost (beer & wine).

Trophies for the top 3 racers!

HOW MANY: We need a minimum of 8 racers. It's a max of 10 in a race, but if we go over 10, they'll just split into separate races.

RSVP: Let Joe know by email/text/carrier pigeon you're in by Tuesday, October 11th so he can make the booking! Significant others welcome. Kids, less so - they can't race. Pay by Venmo/Zelle once we're confirmed booked. Firm commits, please!

*"Why Ontario? Burbank is closer...": Yes, it is. But Ontario is almost perfectly halfway to Rancho Bernardo for those folks. Plus Ontario is a huge K1 with 2 tracks and room to spread out.

**"Wait, that's more than Arrive & Drive..." Yes, it is. But that includes food, drink, private room, and separates us from public racing with our private races. Plus we get to have a final race for position, rather than 3 time-trial style public. And trophies!

***I need to book with a non-refundable 50% deposit with an approximate head count. Head count and final charge is due 3 days before the event. So there's maybe some room for refunds if we get more than 8 people. I'll do my best to accommodate, but no promises.
